RGC Recognised with Commercial Silver Award for Oaken Residences
Russell Gordon Contracting Ltd is proud to have been recognised with a 2026 Master Brick & Blocklayers Excellence Award – Commercial Silver Award for our work on Oaken Residences in Moore St, Howick.
The award recognises the quality, craftsmanship and delivery of the Oaken Residences development, a project completed for C3 Construction between July 2024 and March 2025.
Oaken Residences presented a unique set of challenges, with five separate building blocks featuring multiple coloured brick panels and a combination of structural and architectural masonry elements. The development incorporated approximately 8,900 Firth 250 and 200 Series blocks and around 146,000 bricks, using products from Firth and Brickworks across the project.
A complete RGC delivery
What made the project particularly significant for RGC was the breadth of our involvement. Our scope extended well beyond the masonry works, covering the project from the foundations through to the finished façade.
RGC delivered:
- Block foundations and structural walls
- Rib-Raft Concrete Floor Slabs
- Retaining walls
- Concrete pumping and placing
- Slab cutting
- Installation of brick veneer
- Detailed architectural brickwork
- Coordination of multiple trades and construction elements
This integrated approach allowed our team to maintain control over the quality and sequencing of the works while working within a demanding construction programme.
Craftsmanship in the detail
A key feature of Oaken Residences was the architectural detailing required across the buildings. Four different brick types were used, requiring careful consideration of gauging and setting out to achieve a consistent finished appearance.
The project also included detailed feature panels around the windows and soldier courses above the windows, which were subsequently plastered to create the final architectural finish.
With tight driveways, challenging deliveries and the need to coordinate closely with other trades ahead of windows, flashings, lintels and soffits, the project required careful planning, communication and attention to detail throughout.
Despite these challenges, the RGC team successfully delivered the works within the required programme and helped bring the architect’s vision for the development to life.

Oaken Residences is a great example of the capability and versatility of the RGC team. From foundations, structural concrete and blockwork through to detailed architectural finishes, the project required a coordinated approach and a strong focus on quality at every stage.
